Gappers... blah

It suddenly feels like last September for me. Not a whole lot of great candidates and some fairly unreliable chart patterns. I ended up making another ER2 futures trade for a 1 point gain. However, about 30 secs before entry I had connection problems and I wasn't sure what the entry candle looked like. I refreshed and backfilled the data and all looked well and proceeded to enter (with 3 contracts). But then I refreshed again and realized I shouldn't have entered. So, I split after a 1 point gain (which would've ended up being at least a 5 point gain had I let go). In any case, I feel fortunate.

Also, I downloaded Ninjatrader... wow, what a nice charting platform for futures. I'd like to really use it but coding just seems so difficult. Guess I need to mess around with it some more.

NR7,
Yep esp when you see the homes, banks, financials, reverse 3/15. Some gap dns: ads meli redf crnt yrcw syx ima ccu mcd. Alot of 2 and 3/15 breaks. Sometimes better to wait and look for some group reversal then hassel with gaps. Frustrating.

Ninjatrader look great and $50 a month is okay, But does it support backfill from Stockwatch?

jerry... I'm not paying $50 and I don't have a trail version. Also, I don't believe you can use Stockwatch... but IB is supported.

so... maybe the free version is for charting and messing around but if you want to actually place live trades it'll cost $50 a month?

Just downloaded NinjaTrader. I noticed that it took a long time for a chart to be displayed. Is it always so slow?

I personally use QT for about a year now, but got tired of using CTRL-F to backfill data...

j: haven't used NT for stocks, just futures. I did like how you can dictate how far back you want the data filled (as opposed to QT's 10 day limit). They really need to get rid of the 10 day view... hell, even prophet allows you to look at intraday date from like 120 days or so.

oo,

I think the problem with removing QT's 10 day history limit is performance. The backfill would be a lot slower than it is now. QT uses backfill as it has no dedicated data servers like TS or ESignal.

good point... but it could default to 10-day and have an option for a longer period and the user would have to determine whether they want speed or longer term data. Plus, I'd only want it for testing and stuff after hours so I wouldn't need it during the day anyway.
