Friday's trades

What a wicked day. Entered HUM and TPX long at the same time (6/10) and things looked very good at first. But then price just reversed on me. I managed to exit 1/2 shares at BE on both but got stopped out later on. In hindsight, maybe there was too much of a move before my entry. That and the market tanking.

Enjoy your weekend (too lazy for charts).

Briefing("free") mentioned healthcare premkt, spiked up(XLV) and faded at the 10:15 turnaround time. ADTN TNDM CIEN MSFT upgraded, dell/mrvn rocked. SLM was Mad Money'd again, NNI. CMED RIMM KMX eps. I like knowing some "in play" (at least the possibility)prior to mkt open...now to make that profitable!

bl: do you have a link to the free area?

OO: looks like we have to come up w/ new strategy like fading play as gap and go play are bust now a days. i have had more success in etf plays than suckers like gaps//

anon: you may be right.

The only one I know is http://finance.yahoo.com/marketupdate/inplay

It is delayed and limited. No mention of SLV or the other stocks. I see them in a paid sub, under TECHX and SCANX but these are not available for free...

Alternatives to Briefing for pre-market In Play:
http://money.cnn.com/data/premarket/nasdaq/
http://money.cnn.com/data/premarket/nyse/
http://www.oneoption.com/Favorites.aspx?fid=2

In the past month or so, a list made pre-market from the above 3 sources did not miss many Briefing In Play candidates. No news but its free :-)

Working on a pre-market scan that combines all 3.

I'm not automated so it's just easier for me to "have it togethor"
premkt. At least I think so.

Not sure I agree that gap and go plays are "bust". IMO, Just need to be more selective. Hope I'm not jinxing it, but this month is looking very good and all of my trades have been in direction of the gap.
I do agree though that gap fades are an important addition to the arsenal.

traderam: I don't think the gap plays are gone... just not as numerous nor dependable as they were, say, a year or more ago. I need to do a bit of 'rethinking' myself to see how I can approach gaps slightly differently than what I am now. There are plenty of candidates on my WL that do well but I'm just not 'tuned in' to the setup. I kinda have my blinders on and looking for my particular entries. I've had some very nice success recently but I've also been bored out of my mind and have taken some questionable entries. I have a few things I looked at this weekend that I monitor this coming week.
But, you have to agree, you've had great success with the 'fall/rise through yesterday low/high' setups which aren't really gap plays. Take those out of equation and see how the month plays out :)

Ahh yes I suppose 'fall/rise' thru pdl/pdh are not strictly gap setups. I tend to accumulate all into one scan so had forgotten that. Fair point.
